Our members are the reason we exist, and we have a huge debt of gratitude for the perseverance of the pioneers responsible for getting credit unions off the ground. Australian Mutual Bank is the result of joint ventures in 74 credit unions coming together over the past 69 years, and its origins can be traced back to 1953 when the Motor Transport Savings & Loans cooperative was formed. While the organisation has developed greatly over the years and is now servicing more than 65,000 members, the philosophical difference of "people before profit" is maintained.
On Monday 21st November 2022, we had the pleasure of hosting a lunch for a group of long-standing members and former Directors, some of whom have been loyal members of the bank for 69 years, since its inception. The significant membership tenure was honoured with Certificates of Appreciation awarded by our CEO Mark Worthington.
"Honouring our last surviving person who created our mutual bank back in 1953 was very special. Arthur is 98 and still very active and travelling Australia and the world. This reunion has brought back so many memories" said John Lee, former Director and Vice President, whose membership spans an impressive 68 years.
"It was a great privilege to meet with some of our loyal members who have been advocating, supporting and promoting the credit union, now mutual bank, for so many years. The opportunity to network, share experiences and stories was highly appreciated and I congratulate and thank them again for their contribution, which continues to benefit our organisation." said Mark Worthington.
